Wow... by trying to buff (were they?) they actually nerfed all mages.
As known, mage BiS gear happened to have no spirit, instead it has useful stats like crit, hit, or haste.
Blizzard wanted to make, so a mage with spirit on gear will do as much as a mage w/o it (BiS gear).
So, they basically nerfed Molten Armor in a way that if you gimp yourself and pick gear with spirit on it, Molten Armor won't suck as much. But if you pick the BiS gear without spirit, Molten Armor will grant little to no benefit.
With my BiS (full T7.5, 226 pieces) gear I will lose ~2% crit and that is with 40% of my spirit going into crit rating. Mages who start heroics will better avoid Molten Armor at all.
It will probably be not as bad in a 25-person raid setting with spirit, kings, and mark. But it will hurt in a 10 and 5-person setting.
Also good point:
Quote: | I might also point out that at present the Molten Armor glyph is only attractive because its really the only third glyph that adds any DPS at all. Presumably at some future point we will have better options, at which point you will need over 180 spirit to get 1% crit out of Molten Armor while only int delivers 1% crit for only 166.66 int. Not only that, but I'm pretty sure Int still scales mana regen better by way of Mana Tide/Evo/Replenishment/Spirit regen/etc. Spirit is still a bad stat, even with this attempt to make it more palatable. |

The thing is, it's a nerf unless you are fully raid buffed in full naxx25 gear where it evens out.
Also, some of Arcane/Priest gear will be BiS to Fire mages, such as Sarth2D bracers, Maly belt, and Hood of Rationality.

Well anyways, in a long run it's a good change for *geared* mages.

The first thing I thought of was "damnit, more people to wait behind for that hood".

Blizzard is really doing some silly things with Spirit and MP5 in this patch. Currently, its impossible for an Elemental Shaman to go "oom" in a raiding environment. So, Blizzard decides that we need 3 pieces of T8 gear with MP5? WTF? The funny thing is that the resto helm is better than the elemental helm for caster dps. They have also decided to put spirit not only on the cloth/leather pieces, but also on the jewellery too. It just got a lot tougher to be an elemental shaman .
If they aren't going to create mail caster dps gear, then they need to do something with having MP5 give some dps benefit (similar to what they are doing with the mage armor now).

This is semi related, but Blizz also did silly things with melee dps gear. Some leather pieces, and a mail piece are BiS for plate wearers, meaning that instead of just two classes competing for a piece of leather, you now have all the melee dps competing for that piece of leather.

With kings, DS, mark I'm at 541 spirit which translates into 216 crit rating which is ~4.7% crit.
A slight nerf.

And yet they seem obsessed with Ret Pallies mana.
